Free meetups.
No swiping. Just show up.

I'm Dan, and I'm putting together a pool of Chapel Hill and Carrboro locals who want to meet people. On Bondfire nights you tap in if you're free, and when enough of us are, I pick a spot and we go.

Why this exists

Here's the idea. I moved to Chapel Hill and didn't know anyone. What actually worked, years ago in other cities, wasn't an app trying to match me with strangers. It was Couchsurfing's old Hangouts feature. You opened the app, marked yourself free right then, and saw who else nearby wanted to meet up. You sent a request, someone approved it, and a group chat formed so you could make plans. It needed a paid membership and depended on how many Couchsurfers were active near you, so it worked well in some cities and not at all in others.

That kind of spontaneity is hard to find now, so I'm building a version of it for Chapel Hill and Carrboro, with a person where the algorithm used to be.

You join the pool. On a Bondfire night, you flare if you're free, and you can see the count climb as others do too. When there's enough interest I light the Fire: a real venue, a real time, announced to everyone who flared. You confirm, you show up, you meet people. It costs nothing, and nobody sees who flared except me.

How it works

01

Join the pool

Make a free account with your name and email. That's the whole signup, no profile to build and no directory anyone can browse.

02

Flare when you're free

On a Bondfire night, tap "I'm in tonight." You'll see how many others are in, never who, and you can withdraw any time before the window closes.

03

Show up when the Fire is lit

When enough people flare, I announce the venue and time. Everyone who flared gets the details, confirms, and shows up. No cost.

Pull up a chair.

Join the pool and you'll hear about the next Bondfire night by email. Flare when you're free, sit out when you're not.
